Boy Scout Troop 117 has been sponsored by Epiphany since 1958. The scouts meet in Grady Hall every Thursday 7-8:30pm with the exception of Holy Days. The troop serves boys ages 11 through 17 from the Whitpain, Plymouth Meeting, Whitemarsh, North Wales, and Conshohocken townships and currently consists of 36 youths and 15 adults.
The troop participates in a regular camping program to develop outdoor skills and provide leadership opportunities to growing boys, which takes place in the summer. The troop also offers a “high adventure” program for older scouts. For example: in 2012, a group back-packed for 10 days at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico and in 2013, several scouts spent a week sailing in the Florida Keys at SeaBase. Boy Scout Association events are also regularly attended. Many of our members go on to become Eagle Scouts.
Troop 117 always welcomes new scouts. Fifth grade boys typically become Boy Scouts after February 1st and are allowed to camp without their parents when they turn 11 or earn the “Arrow of Light” as a Webelos scout. Any boy age 11-17 can join. Being a Cub Scout is not a requirement.
